A Little About The Artist
My name is Candace Taylor and I have been an artist most of my life in some form or another.
In my early 20's- 30's I was a singer, song writer, keyboard player for several musical bands as well as making a 30+ year career of hairdressing.
Throughout my young life I was always interested in drawing and creating cloth dolls and such and I thank my mother who is a portrait artist for my love of all the arts.
Then it happened! About 9 years ago I found an OOAK hand sculpted Faerie on eBay made from polymer clay and I was blown away! I decided to see if I had any talent as a sculptor and started to research everything I could about polymer clay and sculpting. One year later I was ready to sculpt and I listed my first sculpture on February 19th 2004 on eBay. I took a few classes joined a few groups but short of that I am a self made sculptor.
An artist friend once told me that a true artist must create and to create is as essential as breathing. I could not have given a better description of how sculpting makes me feel. It is truly addicting. All of my work is original and each piece unique and never repeated.
I now reside in Florida with my husband my biggest supporter who built my studio where I spend most of my time.
About The Sculptures
All of my sculptures are One-of-a-kind hand sculpted figures without the use of molds of any kind and no molds are taken from them. Each start out as a ball of custom mixed artist grade polymer clay with handmade inset eyes that are very life like and magical. Once the head is completed it is fired and then placed on a very strong wire and brass armature and the body is then meticulously hand sculpted onto it and refined into its final pose paying great attention to proper anatomy and fired again. The smallest of details are sculpted such as tiny finger and toe nails and tiny teeth. fine hair eyelashes and brows frame their beautiful eyes. The clay is left its natural color and then blushed and painted with permanent artist heat set oil paints.
Only the finest artist products are used for each sculpture. The hair is made from custom colored yearling mohair and Tibetan lamb . Viscose is also used in certain pieces. Finally comes the costuming using a plethora of materials including and not limited to fine silks and tulle. Many other threads, materials and stones are used to complete each piece to suit their themes and settings. Most of their settings are hand created using many forms of exotic woods and embellishments or anything that that gives me inspiration. Most of my sculptures are sold exclusivly on eBay.
